magazine developing

Chloe
This is a print screen image of the magazine cover half finished. The colours red white and black are colours we originally picked however we also decided to incorporate the colour blue. Not only are the colours red, white and blue colours of the British flag (fitting in with our british socail realism genre) but the blue also makes the cover more interesting as there would have been too much red as the title of the magazine is red.
We have tried to replicate empire magazines style in order for the magazine to look as realistic as possible. We noticed that the cover normally sticks to one font but then has a different feature font fitting the film featured on the cover. We used our poster font of 'base 05' to continue our brand image and the same brand image is also maintained through the use of colour.
The picture we have used is also similar to the pictures on the posters (brick wall, back street scene)- i scene which is also present in the film and so the brand image is also incorporated through the picture used.
We havent used any other pictures on the cover as empire magazine often does as we wanted our picture to be the centre point of the magazine. The magazine still looks realistic as during research we found that some of the empire covers just had one main picture like ours.
We need to add more text to the right side of the magazine in order to achieve the jam-packed look empire magazine has.

Poster/magazine planning

Chloe
After taking the photos for our ancillary task we now had to decide on a colour scheme and font scheme that would look appealing as a poster and stand out on a magazine cover, whilst fitting the genre of our film and also something that would be in-keeping with our whole brand image.
As our film involves death, and blood is present in the teaser trailer, red was an obvious choice of colour and the font also replicates blood and looks worn down which fits into the socail realism theme of poverty.
There were a number of fonts to choose from on www.dafont.com and so i downloaded a few and compared them against each other. The one we all thought worked best was 'base 05' as it was bolder than some of the others. We liked this better as a bold font is more likely to stand out on a magazine cover and poster, therefore more likely to attract the audience's attention. As the title 'vendetta' also serves as our film logo it was essential the font was clear and recognisable as a brand which could spread accross other products such as a dvd cover and the audience would still recognise it, therefore creating a successful brand image.
I also tried different colours such as yellow and black. However I felt red represented our film best as it not only represents blood shed but also has connotations of anger, hatred and a colour which is present in the british flag- all of which are present in our genre of british socail realism.
I print screened the documents on indesign:

Up to date

We are currently editing all of our footage for the teaser trailer and are trying to cut it down to the 90 seconds which we are suppose to have. We are all taking turns to edit the clip and everything we do with the clip is talk about in the group. We are also creating our two posters and magazine front cover which we will post on our blog once they are complete.

Photographs for ancillary tasks

We will be using the third picture for our magazine front cover as it gives a good close up of the actress's face so that the audience can establish that she is the protagonist of our film 'Vendetta'.
We will be using the fourth and fifth pictures for the two posters we will be creating because they give a rebellious image and gives the location image of a working class area reflecting the main genre of social realism which we are trying to show. Our main inspirations for our posters are the 'Kill Bill' and 'Love + Hate' posters:

Even though Kill Bill is an action, Hollywood film we like the poster because it gives off a strong female protagonist image which is what we are aiming for in our posters. Both posters follow a colour scheme, for example on the 'Love + Hate' poster uses the colours yellow, white and black to make it stand out and recognisable. We aim to do this when we create our posters. We will edit the chosen photos and put them in either black and white or a darker tone with red text which will really stand out on the dark background. As well as the red to make the text to stand out, we will be using a bold text from the website http://www.dafont.com/ which also gives an image of how the film will be.
This is the text we will be using:
The text is very rugged and gritty which is reflecting the image that we are trying to give off in our film as it is of the social realism genre. When we use this text in our products, it will be in red to help it stand out more on the dark backgrounds. One of the connotations of the colour red is blood which the text does look like and is an element which the whole film is based around. Another connotation of red is anger which is another element which is something we are going to constantly express through our film, posters and magazine cover.
For the magazine cover, we will use the colours of black, white and red which we will use on our posters however will we use different colours of writing to make the magazine stand out more to attract the audience. For the text about our film, we will be using the same text which we used on the posters and then for the other titles we will be using a normal bold text.

Initial Editing

As most of our footage has now been collected, we decided to cut out the bits we didn't want or need. We also re- took shots at different angles to be able to use invisible editing if needed although the shots would be too long for the quick clips we are needing. So with all the shots at differnt angles, we picked the best ones to be able to add them together to be quick and entising for the audiece to want to come and watch the film.

We also looked through a few cd's that had been found that didn't need permition to copy right.
We then found a suitable track that would fit well with our film trailer. We aren't sure whether it will fit well with the fast paced editing towards the end of the clip, so we have a few back up tracks just incase they are needed.
